Overview
T-Systems have a fantastic opportunity for a Principal Security Engineer to join a skilled and dynamic Network and Security team on high profile systems and projects including firewalls and IDS/IPS for European and Global customers. The role could therefore possibly require UK and International travel.
Responsibilities include;
- Design, build, and support of firewalls, IDS/IPS and other security products (e.g. Internet proxies, authentication servers, and anti-virus) for high profile customers.
- Incident and problem resolution within SLAs and formal incident management environments.
- Coordination of incident resolution with suppliers, customers, and internal delivery teams.
- Maintaining accurate records of reported incidents/problems.
- Working within an outsourcer in a customer facing role.
- Out-of-hours support as part of a formal rota and out-of-hours implementation.
- Working within formal Change Control environments.
- Design and review of configuration changes for secured environments
- Analysing and auditing security events or incidents, providing recommendations and documenting corrective action plans.
- Correlating periodic security reporting and metrics, identifying trends, and taking appropriate action.
- Improving the running of existing systems and reducing failures and callout.
- Producing and maintaining appropriate support documentation.
- Designing and developing security solutions for new and existing business in line with technical guidance from the team lead (e.g. remote access, secure hosting environments).
- Providing security design support for bid work.
- Carrying out security assessments and providing recommendations.
- Maintaining the security of managed infrastructure ensuring compliance with industry standards. (e.g. SOX).
Candidate Requirements:
Work experience requirements:
- Proven Data Centre experience for large enterprises
- End to end detailed design knowledge and solutions design. Ability to articulate strategies at varying layers of the OSI model from network layer to application load balancing
- Ability to work independently at the programme level engaging with customers and engineering teams
- Proven experience of end to end project lifecycle and requirements definition business critical systems.
Technical Requirements:
- Knowledge of network based applications and their security dependencies
- Understanding from a flows perspective the impact of key services and applications AD, NFS, Oracle, SQL, SAP, etc.
- Experience of end-to-end security architecture design; e.g. application security, access control (security policy scoping, design and optimisation, IDS, IPS, etc)
- Knowledge of virtualisation
- Firewall (VSX and FWSM/ASA) and network (VRF/MPLS)
Required technologies:
- Check Point NGX (detailed knowledge of SecureXL, ClusterXL, INSPECT, kernel level diagnostics, fw monitor, etc)
- Checkpoint VSX
- Cisco FWSM's / ASA's
- Experience of working on Crossbeam firewall platforms
- Check Point Provider-1
- Check Point SmartCentre
- Nokia (VRRP, flows)
- VPN (including diagnostics - use of vpn tu and vpn debug) - IPSEC, GRE
- SmartDefense
- Extensive experience of working with IDS/IPS products (e.g. SourceFire/Snort, ISS, Cisco IDS)

- Excellent communication - written, verbal and presentation skills
- Very good analytical skills
- Strong negotiation skills
- Confidence and presence to deal with customers, suppliers and colleagues at high level
- Proactive individual
- Ability to define and meet deadlines and targets
- Very good team player and team leader
Desirable Skills:
- Desirable skills are based on network and Cisco architecture (knowledge at a conceptual level is mandatory):
- L2/L3 network design and experience (STP, routing protocols, port security, PVLAN, VACLs, etc)
- Load Balancing Architecture and concepts (ACE, CSS)
- Knowledge German language skills beneficial but not essential
- Willingness to travel within the UK or international
Desirable technologies:
- Cisco switching/routing
- BlueCoat/proxy technologies
- Juniper/NetScreen
